The National Music Competitions for Young Artists- Southern Luzon Semi-Finals was hosted by Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation this year. The said event happened last September 17, 2022, and was considered a successful back to face-to-face event.
In the morning, they conducted a seminar entitled “Pulso ng Musika: A Workshop on Philippine Traditional Rhythms and Percussion” which featured their speaker, Ms. Teresa Montes.
The Philippine Music Seminar was held in the MSEUF Senior High School building where Ms. Teresa Montes talks about the traditional rhythms and percussion of the Philippines.
After lunch, the Regional Semifinals began with Junior Solo Rondalla which was held in the MSEUF Covered Court. Lastly, the Rondalla workshop after the Regional Semifinals where Mariefrance Ballester, Prince Barnal, and Leonardo Bruno Jr. Facilitated the said workshop.
National Music Competitions for Young Artists (NAMCYA) was formally organized in 1973 under Presidential Proclamation 1173 in recognition of the Filipinos’ innate love for music.
They designated the last week of November of each year as National Music Week, with their competitions as the main event of the celebration.
NAMCYA carries out a three-fold program: discovering outstanding young Filipino musicians from every region of the country through annual competitions; developing these musicians through Workshops and Training Programs, and enhancing and expanding the appreciation for and performance of Filipino music by way of mandated competition repertoire programs and commissioning of new works.
