The Luzonian, the official collegiate student publication of Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation (MSEUF) – Lucena City, secured its place as the Top 8 Performing School in Campus Journalism at the CALABARZON Regional Higher Education Press Conference (RHEPC) 2025, held on Feb. 18-20, Batis Aramin Hotel and Resort, Lucban, Quezon.
Beyond its collective success, The Luzonian produced nine individual qualifiers in 10 individual categories, a remarkable increase from last year’s five. These student journalists will advance to the Luzon-wide Higher Education Press Conference (LHEPC), where they will compete with the best campus writers, editors, and visual artists across Luzon.
Jase Gerald Arquiza clinched 1st Place in Layouting and also secured 5th Place in Column Writing (Filipino). Fiorella Angelie Baldeo dominated the Literary Graphics Illustration (Filipino) category, taking 1st Place. Meanwhile, Joshua Perez showcased his expertise with a 2nd Place finish in Copyreading and Headline Writing (English), alongside Prince Raily Laurel, who placed 2nd in Digital Editorial Cartooning (Filipino).
Further highlighting the team’s depth, Lorrein Luna won 2nd Place in Graphic Illustration (Filipino), while John Leo Echevaria earned 3rd Place in Comic Strip Drawing (Filipino). Bea Kathlin Sumilang secured 4th Place in Comic Strip (English), and Johann Sebastian Catalla excelled in Photojournalism (English), finishing in 4th Place. Lastly, Ma. Cleofe Bernardino placed 5th in Development Communication Writing (English), completing the list of qualifiers.
The Luzonian also achieved impressive rankings in group competitions, proving its versatility across different categories. Its Literary Folio “Andamyo” recorded an impressive feat with a 2nd Best Literary Folio distinction, excelling in 1st Best Literary Content, 1st Best Visual Arts Page, 5th Best Page Design, 5th Best Cover Design, and 7th Best Concept in Literary Content.
The publication’s Magazine category stood out with a 6th Best Magazine finish, supported by victories in 1st Best Editorial Page, 4th Best Page Design, 7th Best Feature Page, 7th Best News Page, 8th Best Cover Design, and 8th Best Sports Page.
In the Tabloid category, the team earned 7th Best Tabloid, with additional placements in Page Design (5th), Sports Page (6th), Feature-Literary Page (6th), Development Communication Page (7th), and News Page (8th).
The Newsletter category saw The Luzonian securing the 5th Best Feature-Literary Page, 8th Best Sports Page, and 8th Best Editorial Page.
Amid intense competition from over 30 campus publications across CALABARZON, The Luzonian reaffirmed its status as one of the region’s top-performing student publications, showcasing its commitment to journalistic excellence.

With these milestones, The Luzonian continues to solidify its reputation as a formidable force in campus journalism, proving its growth and resilience as it heads to LHEPC 2025 on April 2-4 at Batis Aramin Hotel and Resort, Lucban, Quezon.
