Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation (MSEUF) revealed ‘Paskong Pinoy’ or Filipino Christmas as the highlight of the Fiestanglaw Year 14 celebration during its kickoff program on November 7, held in front of the University Gymnasium grounds.
This year, the university introduced Krismas Sunduan, a new parade concept designed to collect or pick up the Christmas lantern entries from each department one by one, in which the procession began at the Office of Student Affairs and Services Building and continued until all college departments were visited.
In its effort to stay true to its theme, “Christmas in Pinoy Wonderland,” the lantern entries were specifically designed to match the native Christmas lanterns found in the Philippines, with eight entries from department student councils and one entry from a non-academic organization being collected in total.
The participating departments and student organization in the Christmas Lantern Making Competition include the College of Architecture and Fine Arts, College of Arts and Sciences, College of Business and Accountancy (CBA), College of Criminal Justice and Criminology, College of Computing and Multimedia Studies, College of Engineering, College of International Hospitality and Tourism Management (CIHTM), College of Maritime Education, and Honor Society of the Lambda Kappa Phi.
The lanterns were presented during the kickoff program, with most of the entries showcasing unique interpretations of ‘Paskong Pinoy’ by highlighting Filipino traditions, culture, values, and unique craftsmanship.
Meanwhile, the traditional switch-on program featured more Filipino Christmas lanterns and Christmas lights, which will be visible across the university starting from November 7.
The kickoff program also included a dance showdown where three students each from the College of Education, CBA, and CIHTM performed a freestyle dance show.
The university also hosted Krismas Hatid, where guests and students were guided around the campus to enjoy the rest of the Fiestanglaw Year 14 festive lights.
The announcement for the Step-up Christmas Dance Showdown will be made on Nov. 12, alongside the opening of the Christmas Bazaar 2024, while winners of the Christmas Lantern Making Competition, as well as the schedule for the Christmas Cantata and Living Belen, will be revealed at a later date.
