After a hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) Psychological Society (PSYCH SOC) brought back the traditional “Psych Salubong” event, where the new Psychology students were welcomed by alumni and seniors at the University Gymnasium, Nov. 17.

The event, which translates to “Psychological Welcome” in English, is an annual orientation and bonding activity that aims to foster a sense of belongingness and camaraderie among the psychology community at the university.

“This is a traditional event to welcome the freshmen to the ‘psyche verse.’ My batch and our fourth-year seniors did not get the chance to have our own Psych Salubong because of the pandemic… I hope everyone finds this event a medium to be themselves and discover themselves throughout the activities,” PSYCH SOC President Zahra Reyes expressed in her speech.

One of the highlights of the day-long event was the traditional handshake, which came back after COVID-19 restrictions were lifted, in which the new students, seniors, and alumni formed a circle and exchanged brief conversations as the circle rotated.

The event also served as a mentoring session, where the first-year students learned from the seniors and alums who shared their insights and advice in psychology.

Some alumni who graced the event are Mary Llenett Gariando, Darlene Faye Cacha, Maria Cielito Marte Presas, Jerimarc Cuevas, Elna Uy Sia, and Faye Flancia.
