EU-Candelaria frustrates EU-Lucena in epic Chairman’s Cup Championship Game, 97-84

Enverga-Candelaria basketball team proved their might in the 1st Chairman’s Cup Inter-Branch Basketball League championship game dominating Enverga-Lucena in front of its roaring home crowd in the University Gymnasium-Lucena City, Feb. 17.

With the gymnasium almost full of the echoing loud cheers from supporters of MSEUF-Lucena, MSE-Candelaria displayed its tenacity scoring 97 points against their rival’s 84-point outing concluding the tournament on a high note and reigning as the kings of the court.

Jersey No. 26, Carl Anton Macahilas, helped his team conquer its greatest battle contributing 34 points which helped him be named as the Most Valuable Player receiving a trophy and P5,000.

Candelaria started the game pleasantly having a 23-16 lead in the first quarter which gave them an advantage throughout the whole game scoring 44-37, 70-65, and 97-84 on the second, third and fourth quarter, respectively.

With this feat, the Candelaria team earned the first prize in the tournament including a trophy and P25,000 while the Lucena team garnered the second prize consisting of a trophy and P15,000.

Meanwhile, EU-Sampaloc ended their campaign in the tournament with a comeback win against EU-Catanauan in the battle for third place, 77-71.

Sampaloc trailed behind during the first half of the game, down five (5) in the 1st quarter and six (6) in the 2nd quarter, but bounced back in the second half after registering four (4) 3-point shots to claim a podium finish, a trophy, and P10,000.

According to Mr. Darrios Virrey, Director of Office of Sports and Cultural Relations, the Chairman’s Cup Inter-Branch Basketball League may be held annually as a part of MSUEF’s Foundation Anniversary.
