Among 10 participants from various departments, two students from the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) were hailed as champions at the Asuncion L. Flores Speaking Contests held at the EMRC VI-A, B, and C, on Feb 8.

In the Oratorical Speech Contest, CAS’ very own John Rev Remo bagged the first place, with Lycamae Penarejo from the College of Criminal Justice and Criminology (CCJC) coming in second place, and Kaye Heray from the College of Education (CED) landing in third place.

According to Remo, he experienced breakdowns and sleepless nights preparing for the contest, along with commitments to other organizations which made his victory sweeter.

Remo added that he hopes for a CAS winning streak in this contest and to compete in regional competitions in the future.

Meanwhile, in the Spoken Word Poetry competition, CAS representative Daenielle Kent Oriate was hailed as champion, followed by Jenevell Antoni from the College of Education (CED) in second place, and John Erick Decena of the College of Engineering in third place.

In an interview, Oriate stated that he was grateful for becoming the champion of Spoken Word Poetry and he will grab every opportunity to be part of it in the coming years.
