SocScieSoc spearheads Voter’s Ed webinar

As the voter’s registration for the upcoming polls nears culmination, the College of Arts and Sciences-Social Sciences Society hosted a Voter’s Education and Registration Campaign on September 23, 2021, via Zoom, in partnership with the Office of Atty. Sunshine Abcede-Llaga and Linang Quezon.

Ms. April Khurana, the project head of the Voters’ Education and Registration Campaign (VERC) Webinar Series, and Mr. Edjieson Hachaso, one of the advisers of the organization, introduced the activity to over 200 students participating in the webinar, aiming to deepen knowledge of the government and how to vote wisely.

Atty. Sunshine Abcede-Llaga gave a discussion on the branches of government and constitutional commissions, along with their respective functions. She also expounded on the necessity of understanding how the government works and reminded participants to elect candidates who know about its workings and do their jobs faithfully.

Vice Mayor Jeremy Jesus Bueno III of Santa, Ilocos Sur, talked about the pillars of good governance and shared thoughts on his experience as a public servant.

Bueno III pointed out that data-driven governance, transparency, and dialogue, among others, are keys to ensuring a smooth administration and service to the people.

Meanwhile, Kenneth Egamino of Linang Quezon discussed the power of the youth vote and its potential in the upcoming elections. He mentioned that the youth play a critical role in deciding the fate of the upcoming polls and also shared the results of the survey that was given before the event.

After the presentation of the speakers, participants participated in the open forum in which the guests answered their queries on their respective topics.

Reina Carmela Eve Rivano, the President of the CAS Social Sciences Society, delivered her closing remarks, followed by a photo opportunity and a request to complete the evaluation form.
