The Luzonian earns 2-time 4th Best Publication in CALABARZON

LUCBAN, Quezon — The Luzonian, the official student publication of the Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation – Lucena City, reclaimed the top 4 spot in the CALABARZON Regional Higher Education Press Conference 2024, Feb. 20-22 at Batis Aramin Resort and Hotel.

The publication’s newsletter entry won 3rd place in the overall Best Newsletter earning 3rd in Best News Page, Sports Page, and Feature Page, 4th in Best Page Design, 5th in Best DevComm Page, and 6th in Best Opinion Page.

The Luzonian’s Andamyo, titled Alas Tres, earned the 5th place spot in Best Literary Folio bagging 2nd in Best Visual Arts and Cover Page, 4th in Best Page Design, and 10th in Best Literary content.

The L Magazine also won 6th place in Best Magazine with 4th in Best Page Design and DevComm Page, 5th in Best News Page, 6th Best Sports Page, 7th Best Feature Page, 9th Best Opinion Page, and 10th spot for Best Literary Page and Cover Page.

The Luzonian Tabloid also earned the 6th place in Best Tabloid securing 2nd in Best News and Opinion Page, 7th Best Sports, Feature and Literary Page.

Aside from the group contests, the publication’s staff also bagged awards in their respective categories.

For the official individual entries, 3rd year Fine Arts Student Bea Kathlin Sumilang snagged the 1st place in the Comics Strip (English), 3rd year Financial Management Student Jasper Tabernilla earned 3rd spot in News Writing and 7th in Sports Writing (Filipino), 3rd year Criminology Student Lycamae Penarejo won 4th place in Editorial Writing (English), 3rd year Architecture Student Mill Angelo Prado earned the 4th place in Feature Writing and 7th in Editorial Cartooning (Filipino), while 3rd year Fine Arts Student Fiorella Angelie Baldeo bagged the 5th place in Literary Graphics (Filipino).

Meanwhile, John Leo Echevaria, a 2nd year Computer Science student, clinched the 6th place in Comics Strip (Filipino), Joshua Perez, a 3rd year Psychology student, snatched 7th place in Poetry Writing (English), Mathew Mondejar, a 3rd year Communication student, got the 10th place in Poetry Writing (Filipino), and Yestin Kim Roxas, a 2nd year Library Science student, finished 8th spot in News Writing (English).

In the observers’ category, Florian San Juan, a 3rd year Fine Arts student, won 1st place in Comics Strip (Filipino) and 5th place in News Writing (Filipino), Cyra Jael, a 2nd year Architecture student, bagged the 3rd place in Editorial Cartooning (English) and 5th in Editorial Writing (English), and Lorrein Joy Luna, a 3rd year Fine Arts student, earned 2nd spot in Comics Strip (English).

Second year Engineering students Ericka Barandon and Kayl Tantong claimed 3rd place in Editorial Writing (Filipino) and Feature Writing (Filipino), and 4th place in News Writing (English), respectively. While Andrae Leynes, a 1st year Communication student, and Matthew Oblea, a Computer Science student, clinched respective 5th places in Photojournalism (Filipino) and Editorial Writing (Filipino).

Other dedicated student-journalists who participated in the various categories are Computer Science students, Jhon-Jhon Ortiz in DevCom (Filipino), James Leo Grimaldo in Devcom (English), John Hendrex de Leon in Editorial Cartooning (English), Gabriel Biler in Photojournalism (English), Engineering student Daniel Calusin in Photojournalism (Filipino), Arianne Maaño a 2nd year Education student in Editorial Writing (Filipino) and Column Writing (Filipino), and Louise Justine Abrigo in photojournalism (English) observers’ category.

The five victorious student-journalists who placed 1st to 5th in their category will advance in the 19th Luzon-wide Higher Education Press Conference 2024 that will be held at Naga City, in March 19-21, together with their advisers Dexter Villamin and John Rover Sinag.
