Lucena City, with its average of 24 COVID-19 cases per day, an 8% attack rate, and hospital capacity already at 95%, has been ranked 4 in the top 10 high-risk areas for COVID-19 by the OCTA Research Team’s latest report.

The OCTA Research Team, an independent research group composed of UP experts and contributors from UST and Providence College in America, made the ranking based on the new case average per day and critical care occupancy reaching 69% and above.

Meanwhile, Makati topped the list, with an average of 59 COVID-19 cases per day and a 10% attack rate from October 11 to 17, and a critical care occupancy at 79% as of October 16.

Baguio City is at rank 2, with an average of 39 COVID-19 cases recorded per day, 11.1% attack rate, and hospital capacity of 69%.

Mandaluyong is third with an average of 34 COVID-19 cases per day, attack rate of 8%, and hospital capacity of 75%.

Other COVID-19 high-risk areas identified in the top 10 include: Pasig City, Iloilo City, Pasay City, Marikina City, Ilagan, Isabela, and Batangas City.

“Attention is needed in Lucena City and Batangas City. The local government units concerned need to further intensify their efforts at testing, tracing, and isolation to reverse the increase of transmissions at the community level,” OCTA said.

At the regional level, Region 4A marked the highest COVID-19 positivity rate in the country at 11%, compared to 6% of the National Capital Region and the national figure of 9.9%.

Region 4A’s 11% COVID-19 positivity rate is largely due to the provinces of Batangas, Cavite, and Laguna with a total of 9% positivity rate and high numbers of cases and attack rate in Calamba (Laguna), Lucena City (Quezon), Batangas City, and Santo Tomas (Batangas), Taytay and Cainta (Rizal), and General Trias (Cavite).
