Kicking off this year’s Cyber Fest, the College of Computing and Multimedia Studies conducted the Cyber Research Forum at the St. Bonaventure, on Feb 22.
The annual event aims to showcase the outstanding theses and capstone projects of CCMS students from the Computer Science (CS), Information Technology (IT), and Entertainment and Multimedia Computing (EMC) programs.
Fifteen projects were presented at the forum, including four CS theses and eleven capstone projects, of which eight were from the IT program and three were from the EMC program. Among the four thesis presentations, “QueenBuzz:
Sound Processing using CNN to Determine a Queenless Beehive for Improvement of Apis Mellifera Bee Colonies’ Survivability” by Alexander Maralit II, Alexel Imperial, and Rinoa Cayangyang stood out and was awarded the highly coveted Best in CS Thesis award.
The Best in IT Capstone award was granted to Franz Ronin Manrique, Hju Kneyck Flores, and Mindy Kay Zaracena for their outstanding work on the project titled “Development of Blockchain-enabled E-certificate Issuance and Verification System,” outshining seven other capstone projects under the IT program.
In the EMC program, Erika Marca, Jay Lynn Villanueva, and Mszeey Montalbo showcased their exceptional skills in animation and storytelling, earning the Best in EMC Capstone award for their project titled “Ay Weh Tru Ba?: A 3D Animated Short Film of Superstitious Beliefs on Life, Fortune, Marriage, and Death.” The department-led event was headed by the Research Coordinator, David Eric Oreta, in collaboration with the Philippine Society of Information Technology Students (PSITES) and the CCMS Department Student Council.
